After Seven Years of Trying, We Finally Brought Our Daughter Home

Client Story · March 2024 · San Francisco, CA

Sarah and Michael had been trying to have a child for seven years. After multiple rounds of IVF, countless doctor visits, and emotional ups and downs, they had almost given up hope. That is when they found Lumina Family.

"We were exhausted—physically, emotionally, and financially," Sarah recalls. "We had tried everything. Our marriage was strong, but the weight of infertility was taking its toll on both of us."

The couple first heard about international surrogacy through a friend who had successfully built their family through a program in Armenia. Initially skeptical, they decided to attend one of Lumina informational webinars.

"What struck us most was the transparency," Michael says. "There were no hidden fees, no vague promises. They walked us through every step—from the legal framework to the medical procedures to the timeline."

Within three months of their initial consultation, Sarah and Michael were matched with a surrogate in Armenia. The legal contracts were executed under Nevada law, providing them with strong parental protections from day one.

The medical journey took place at one of Lumina partner clinics in Yerevan. Using Sarah eggs and Michael sperm, the IVF team created several healthy embryos. The first transfer was successful.

"We received the call at 3 AM our time," Sarah remembers, her voice still thick with emotion. "Our coordinator told us the pregnancy test was positive. I think we both just cried for an hour."

Throughout the pregnancy, Lumina bilingual coordinators provided updates, arranged video calls with the surrogate, and helped Sarah and Michael feel connected despite the distance. They traveled to Armenia for the 20-week ultrasound and again for the birth.

Their daughter, Emma, was born healthy on a crisp November morning. The legal paperwork—birth certificate, passport, and citizenship documentation—was handled seamlessly by Lumina team.

"Holding Emma for the first time... I can not even describe it," Michael says. "All those years of heartbreak, and then this perfect moment. It was all worth it."

Today, Emma is a thriving toddler, and Sarah and Michael are considering expanding their family again through Lumina.

"To anyone hesitating—take that first step," Sarah advises. "The journey might seem overwhelming, but you do not have to walk it alone. Lumina was with us every single day."
